here’s a few quick tips on possible spring cooling system problems. in this tough economy the last thing you need is an air conditioner correction when you try and turn it on for the first time this spring. there are two quick and easy possibilities for why your cooling system may not be quite right the first time around this annually.
1. possible tripped breaker – one of the most common causes of no-cool calls is a tripped breaker. be sure to reset your breaker before making a call for furnace & cooling repairs. hopefully it won’t trip again, but if it does then it’s time to make a call. at that point something is causing the breaker to trip and still it is often something easy like a bad breaker, loose wire, or a bad capacitor. however, if not addressed, some easy problems can lead to far more expensive repairs.
2. filthy filter – if you have a 1” disposable filter, it should be replaced monthly. it’s easy to forget because it’s out of sight and out of mind. but every annually many heating, ventalation, and air conditioning service calls where the cooling system is not cooling the air are the direct result of restricted air movement from a filthy filter. a filthy filter can also result in a frozen interhome coil, which again can lead to more serious repairs.
